Final Grade Needed

Find the score you need on a final exam to reach a target grade, given your current grade and the final's weight. It also tells you whether that target is still reachable.

Worked example

Need on final: 108.666667% · Feasible?: No (>100%)

How it’s solved

Worked on the example above, step by step — follow along and you can do it on paper next time, no tool required.

  1. Your current grade already covers the non-final part of the course; the final must close the rest of the gap to your target.
  2. Grade carried in (current × the non-final weight)
    82 × (1 − 30%) = 57.4
  3. Subtract that from your target
    90 − 57.4 = 32.6
  4. Divide by the final's weight to get the score you need
    32.6 ÷ 30% = 108.666667%
