Frequently asked

Which accents are covered?

The whole Latin-1 and Latin Extended-A range, in both cases: French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Nordic, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Turkish and Baltic letters. Ligatures expand rather than collapse — æ becomes ae, œ becomes oe, ß becomes ss, þ becomes th.

Does it work on decomposed text?

Yes. A letter written as 'e' plus a separate accent mark gives the same result as the single precomposed character.

Does it change unrelated characters?

No. Non-Latin scripts have no ASCII equivalent, so Cyrillic, Greek and CJK pass through unchanged rather than being deleted or guessed at.
